Oahe Days, Pierre

Pierre's annual celebration of summer, Oahe Days, was June 19-21 this year and featured freestyle motorcycle jumpers, concerts, art vendors, a duck derby and much more.

I couldn't resist the challenge of shooting the motorcycle jumpers on the beach along the Missouri River. Taking off from a curved metal ramp, these stuntmen flew amazingly high and unbelievably landed safely on a large dirt mound.

I shot two of the four shows they did over the weekend, just to give myself several angles to work with. As it turned out, I also got my choice of sunny or overcast skies to work with. Both seemed to work equally well.

I experimented with high shutter speeds to freeze the action and low shutter speeds to give the sense of motion. I like the frozen stuff better, but this one with some motion blur to the background isn't too bad.

For photos of the Judd Hoos concert that was also part of Oahe Days, check out my concert photo blog.
