Along with the Fourth of July and the fireworks at Mount Rushmore this week, there are several events that all make great photos in July.
River City Racin' in Chamberlain/Oacoma is one of South Dakota's newer events. Very brightly painted boats with huge supercharged engines roar across the Missouri River with huge sprays of water behind on July 11 and 12. Take your biggest lens, dial in some fast shutter speeds and be ready to shoot lots! More info at River City Racin'. My tips for shooting are here.
The Black Hills Corvette Classic means lots of beautiful Chevys cruising through the hills. Held July 15-18, the event begins in Sioux Falls and then caravans across the state to Spearfish. A huge show and shine on Main Street Spearfish brings all the cars together for one big spectacular gathering called "Vette Street, USA." More info at Black Hills Corvette Classic.
Deadwood's Days of '76 celebration is always a memorable highlight for those who attend. Rodeo events are held July 21-25 and have been voted as some of the best in the country. Huge parades on July 24 and 25 down Deadwood's Historic Main Street bring horses, wagons and costumed reenactors past the beautiful buildings where the legendary figures of the Old West actually played cards and held the occasional shootout. More info at Days of '76. Some inspirational photos and tips for photographing are here.
