Needles star trails wallpaper

A late night visit to the Needles Eye in Custer State Park along with a five minute exposure and some color tweaking in Photoshop resulted in this image from Wednesday night.

The Northern Lights effect is created by clouds that drifted through the scene being illuminated by a half moon that is behind the middle rock spire.

Click on the photo to make it larger, then right click and save as desktop.

These types of shots lend themselves well to experimenting in Photoshop, adding colors, etc. This version is a lot closer to the natural colors in the scene, but who's to say what's "right" in a photo like this. Exposure time on this one was 10 minutes, so the star trails are longer.
