South Dakota photographer honored

Bill Groethe photographed Mount Rushmore when it was being carved, he photographed survivors of the Battle of the Little Bighorn, and he's still at it today. I'm proud to say I have shot alongside Bill at the Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup and the Mount Rushmore Fireworks.

Governor Mike Rounds and the Rapid City City Council both recently honored Bill for his preservation of Black Hills and South Dakota history. September 2, 2009 will be "William M. Groethe Day" in South Dakota.

As you might imagine, Bill is an "old-school" photographer, favoring film over digital and less of the computerized bells and whistles than a lot of us.

Read more at the Rapid City Journal. Another interesting article about Bill can be found at Voice Of America.
