Spirit of the West Festival, Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls' annual celebration of the cowboy spirit, the Spirit of the West Festival, is a photographer's delight.

Cowboys, cowgirls, cavalry officers, chuckwagon cooks, trick ropers, gunspinners, country singers and even Western movie stars mingle the large grounds throughout the three-day festival in mid-September. American Cowboy magazine and it's readers have honored the festival numerous times as one of the best in the country.

Whether it's vendors setting out their wares or reenactors working through a historical scene, there seems to be something fun to photograph around every corner. It's also a great place to dig out every lens you've got for some good practice. Wide angles and super telephotos can all get a workout here.

For more information, including directions on how to find the festival, check out Spirit of the West.

As always, Facebook readers should not forget that Dakotagraph.com has even more info than you are seeing at first glance.
