Spearfish Canyon is beautiful!

Can't resist posting this just in case some of you are close enough to catch the fall colors in Spearfish Canyon. They are about as good as you'll ever find this weekend. I would guess that there will still be some color throughout the next week as well.

There are more red leaves than I ever remember punctuating the large masses of yellow. Very pretty stuff!

More specifics on Spearfish Canyon are available here at Dakotagraph by searching the "Topics List" dropdown box in the right column.

By the way, I was at Mount Rushmore yesterday and while there are some yellow leaves, the aspen trees near the Sculptor's Studio that are easiest to photograph with the faces had not turned at all yet. I would give them 5-7 days before they will be at peak color.

Here's a link to a Spearfish Canyon color saturation chart from the president of the Spearfish Canyon Society, Jerry Boyer, that tracks the color change as far back as 1994 for anyone interested.

I think Boyer sends this out to all the local media and it's what they use to report about fall colors.
