Unfortunately after hiking in to the ranch, I discovered that a long winter, wet spring, and heavy summer rains made it impossible to get near the buildings without wading through a wide marshy area that was around a foot deep. Unprepared for the conditions, I instead made the best of it.
First I shot across the water, which was okay, but not great...
Then I realized that the moss growing in a fallen log was much more interesting at the time than trying too hard for something of the buildings. Switching to a macro lens let me find something fun to shoot and forget that the hike had not resulted in what I expected.
