Pierre Arboretum is great spot for macros

The city of Pierre, South Dakota has a wonderful under-utilized spot for macro photography. The Pierre Native Plant Arboretum and Nature Area contains over 44 species of trees and plants that all exhibit the beautiful patterns in nature.

Directions to find the arboretum are in this earlier post about their October 5 open house, which is when all of these photos were taken.

In a very compact area you have your choice of types of leaves and berries, colors and textures. If that's not enough it's a very short walk to the shore of the Missouri River, with all the variety that a water landscape adds.

For more information or to arrange for a guided tour of the arboretum, call 605-224-6528 or 605-773-2527.
