So I couldn't pass up the historic Milky Way on 12th Street in Sioux Falls. It's very near the Great Plains Zoo and U.S.S. South Dakota Battleship Memorial. Probably not open this time of year, but I've been digging back into the files lately and thought I'd share for those who enjoy shooting neon in all it's glory. A slow shutter speed on a tripod from across the street makes the passing taillights echo the red lights on the building.

Check out earlier posts about other similar stuff to shoot at Nostalgic Tourism.

I enjoyed looking at your "Nostalgic Tourism" series. Seeing the B&G Milky Way brought back strong memories, as I grew up in Sioux Falls and used to buy excellent chocolate milkshakes there.
Ironically, I was just talking to the owner of our Zesto yesterday and was asking him what he knew about the history of Zesto. He said he knew there were several in SD, one in Atlanta (?) but that as far as he knew, there was never a national franchise.
Anyway, thanks for the great series and excellent web site.
I should have said the owner of the Watertown Zesto. . .
Thanks Scott. Fun stuff isn't it?
I'm no Zesto expert, but I have found that it was a national franchise started in Atlanta in the 1950s. The chain went out of business and sold the stores to individual owners.
Of course, I also found this Wikipedia artical that says it started in Evansville, IN (which I coincidentally used to live just a few miles from).
So I'm not sure about the origins, but I do think there are Zesto's scattered around the country still.
Woops, didn't get the Wikipedia link in there -

Thanks Debra! I think you are much more of a Zesto authority than I am. Guessing you already found it, but you might like my Pierre Zesto photo at http://www.dakotagraph.com/search/label/Zesto.
