Trains and Trees

I realize I'm a little late with these, but I had a great time shooting the "Trains and Trees" Christmas exhibit at the South Dakota State Railroad Museum in Hill City last month.

Centerpiece for the exhibit is a huge HO-gauge model train layout donated by Gene Jackson of Rapid City. The layout includes enough tracks and landscape for several trains to be running at one time and will be a permanent part of the museum. Whether getting in close with my macro, panning with the moving trains, or standing back and zooming on the amused faces viewing the show, it was a lot of fun to shoot.

The museum itself is a treasure-trove for train buffs and plans are in place for continued growth of the exhibits. It can be found on the grounds of the 1880 Train in downtown Hill City. More information is available at the South Dakota State Railroad Museum website.
