Time to think about holiday photos

Ready or not, the holiday season is coming right up. Some of the more photogenic events based around Christmas are less than two weeks away.

So here's a selection of images that hopefully will inspire more than groans of "too soon!"

Lighted Christmas parades are held in numerous communities around the state. Check with your local chamber of commerce for information.

"Winter Wonderland," where Falls Park in Sioux Falls is decorated with thousands of lights runs from November 19 through January 8.

"Christmas at the Capitol" in Pierre gets underway on November 22 with a grand lighting ceremony of over 100 trees and runs through December 26.

"Christmas Nights of Lights" at Storybook Island in Rapid City is open from November 25 through December 31.

The 1880 Train in Hill City offers "Holiday Train" trips to the North Pole November 25-26 and December 10, 17, and 23.

Fort Sisseton State Park's "Frontier Christmas" is held on Saturday, December 10 with costumed reenactors, old-fashioned ornament making and horse-drawn sleigh and wagon rides.

More ideas for holiday photography can be found in the events calendar at the South Dakota Tourism website.
