Black and white Black Hills

If you've looked around this blog much you know I don't often shoot black and white photos. Once in a great while something jumps out at me that begs for the monochromatic treatment and this day in the Black Hills was one.

After the first big snow of the year the sun popped out on this morning near Hill City. A wind began whipping the fresh snow off the trees and creating incredible light streaks through the forest. It was another one of those scenes that I couldn't just drive by, I had to shoot it.

Black and white conversion was done in the Photomatix HDR process, with a tiny bit of tweaking in Photoshop.
