Oahe Chapel a hidden gem in the Pierre/Fort Pierre area

It is certainly not one of the most well-known attractions in South Dakota, but the Oahe Chapel makes for a few fun nostalgic photos.

Now located on top of Oahe Dam north of Pierre and Fort Pierre, the Oahe Chapel was originally built in 1877 at the Oahe Mission under what is now Lake Oahe. When the dam was being built in the 1950s the chapel was moved and then moved again in 1964 to the east end of the dam.

The chapel holds church services on Sunday mornings throughout the summer. Visitors can also get a look inside by stopping next door at the new Great Lakes of South Dakota Visitor Center and asking for a tour.
