Sometimes the great photos aren't what you planned for or expected. Shooting tonight's Sitting Bull Stampede rodeo in Mobridge was one of those cases.
I shot the usual bronc riding, calf roping and steer wrestling and have some very good images that I'll show later. As with any evening rodeo however, there came a point in the performance when it was just getting too dark to get action shots that were acceptable to me. That's when I turned around to look away from the arena and into the setting sun.
I couldn't be more happy with the iconic western silhouettes I found in the dust stirred up by cowboys and cowgirls warming up for their turn at competition. Here's just one. You'll be seeing more.
