Watch for teepees

When traveling in or around South Dakota's nine regions of tribal lands and Indian reservations, I always keep an eye out for teepees in scenic spots.

The vast majority of teepees seen today are not used as full time dwellings but instead as camping shelters, ceremonial lodges and recreational quarters. This one was near Pickstown last month.

More information about visiting reservations and tribal lands can be found at the South Dakota Tribal Relations website.
