Details coming together for second annual SD Camera Club Roundup

After I suggested last year that South Dakota's many camera clubs collaborate to host events for mutual benefit, the Mitchell Area Camera Club took up the challenge.

They have been hard at work putting together the second annual South Dakota Camera Club Roundup on Saturday, April 13.

This FREE event is for anyone and everyone who has an interest in shooting photos, and you don't have to be a member of a club. The only costs involved in the day will be if you want to shoot in area museums and a rock concert at the World's Only Corn Palace that night.

SCHEDULE
More events and potential shooting locations are being finalized, but here is the schedule so far -

8 -9 am - Check in (location to be determined). You will pick up location lists, maps, scheduled shoot times, etc. here.

1-3 pm - Hansen Wheel and Wagon will open their shop and barns full of wagons for us to shoot. http://www.hansenwheel.com/

1-4 pm - Dakota Discovery Museum will be open to photographers roaming through exhibits and historic buildings. http://dakotadiscovery.com/

2-4 pm - Car show

7:30 pm - Hairball in concert, World's Only Corn Palace, half-price tickets (only $10!) for Camera Club Roundup participants and access to shoot the entire show. http://www.hairballonline.com/

A behind-the-scenes tour of the Corn Palace is also in the works. http://www.cornpalace.org/

BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!
Lists of historic buildings, windmills, old farm machinery and old cars in the area will be available. Custom motorcycles will be available to shoot. Nighttime and star trails shooting will be available for those who aren't interested in the concert.

A social gathering in the late afternoon will give everyone a chance to get together and compare experiences from the day.

LODGING DISCOUNTS
Mitchell hotels are offering discounts for those who want to spend Friday and/or Saturday night. Call the Hampton Inn 605-995-1575 for rooms at $79 plus tax or the Thunderbird Lodge 605-996-6645 for rooms at $53 plus tax.
