There is a brand new event next weekend that should be a lot of fun for photographers. Pierre is hosting the first annual Sioux Avenue Cruise Night on Saturday, June 8. Over 80 cars, trucks and motorcycles have already indicated they are coming so there should be lots to shoot.
Different than a typical car show or rally, this is an old-fashioned cruise on Pierre's main strip where drivers will show off their rides, gather in parking lots and have fun. If you've seen the movie "American Graffiti" you know what I mean.
Oahe Speedway will also have "Old Skool Nostalgia Drags" racing Saturday, so the action isn't just at night. Some of my photos from last summer at Oahe Speedway are available here.
Wegner Auto's lot right in the middle of the Sioux Avenue stretch will be empty and available for cruisers to gather. There might even be a live band set up there.
The River Lodge of Pierre is offering discounts to cruisers who need a place to stay. Other businesses are joining in the fun too, so watch for offers along the street.
Gates open at the Speedway north of town on Highway 1804 at 8 am, with racing action at 1 pm. The fun on Sioux Avenue begins at 6 pm.
If you are a Facebook user details of the Cruise Night event are here.
