With temperatures in the 40s today was a great time to hit the trails at Farm Island Recreation Area just downstream in the Missouri River from Pierre.
I have known that the ruins of several buildings are scattered around the island, but not visited many. I set my goal this morning as finding the Girl Scout Cabin about four miles from the trail head. It was a fun hike punctuated by the constant honking of Canada geese, the cackling of pheasants and turkeys sprinting up the trail ahead of me.
I'm finding that carrying my Olympus OMD E-M1 with a 14-42mm lens is a lightweight and handy photography solution for hikes like this.
The Girl Scout Cabin itself is made of round river stones, which contrast nicely with the tall straight grass and gnarled trees around and in it.
Now to get out and find the other building remains on the island.
